What is science?
Task Description: For this task I made a copy of the presentation and filed it into my reading folder. I then read the required texts for the first 2 slides and finished the questions on said 2 slides. I then watched the Charles Darwin video and wrote about him. I then watched the Rachel Carson video and wrote about her. I then posted the presentation onto my blog and made sure it was published to a high standard.

The Tree of Life
This is the tree of life. In 1835 Charles Darwin figured this out by looking at different animals that look similar by seeing this he realised that everything is connected somehow. Animals change over millions of years and their changes help them survive in their environment. This definitely opened my eyes to the idea of everything being related. It's a very interesting concept and I must applaud it.

Braces
On Monday the 15th of July 2019 I finally got my braces. But along with the braces came a whole lot of restrictions when it comes to eating and a great expansion of oral hygiene. For example I'm not allowed to eat:
- Hard Foods: Nuts, Pretzels, Hard Sweets, and Ice... Especially Ice.
- Chewy Foods: Toffee, Bagels, Caramel, Tough meat, Gumies, Liqourice,
- Foods you have to bite into: Apples, Corn on the cob, Carrots
- Chewing on hard things like pencils pens or nails will also damage the braces. Damaged braces will make the treatment longer.
And added onto my oral hygiene I have to: #
- Floss in between the braces gums and teeth.
- Chew on these pink tablets that'll show me where any plaque is.
- Put wax on any braces that are hurting the inside of my mouth.
- Brush my teeth in round circular motions and do so very slowly.
- Use mouthwash
- Brush my tongue
What do I know about Scientists?
Scientists probably have the most stereotypical expectations in our modern day society. But they aren't actually what they seem. I mean look at Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you look at him and don't know who he is. He looks like a normal person.
Scientists study the things around us and how they work. They don't Mix potions together and then test them on themselves. They test chemical reactions and look in microscopes to see the smallest things in the world. They don't Harness the suns power to make an ultimate death ray.
Scientists work to find understanding of the world around us and the things inside us. They are not makers of destruction. They are finders of Solutions.

Totara Park Macpac XTERRA Trail Run
Today Kauri, Jayne and I went to Totara Park. Why did we go to Totara Park you ask? Why, we went there to go on a trail run. That's right another trail run. This one was a lot harder than the last one I think because of the steep hills, and it was very muddy and slippery. I think this was a harder run because my breathing was acting up a bit, but it was still fun. I had a great start and a great Finish, and I didn't get that muddy! However I cannot say the same for my PALE PINK SPORTS SHOES!!! I'm afraid they'll never recover.

Rainbow Swirl Cake
Walt: Reflect upon my actions and see what I should have done to make the situation better.
Today I made Rainbow swirl cake and it was very Tasty. I used this recipe and it was a pretty simple and easy to follow recipe. I only used one 23 centimetre cake tin so it didn't bake right the first time. The second time around I used a 20 centimetre cake tin twice to make 2 layers so the second attempt will be much better. I haven't iced the second attempt yet so I have only had the first attempt and it was very tasty. I am hoping that the next attempt will be delicious. I'm sure that it will be great!
The rainbow swirl cake was real change from my usual baking which is normally just vanilla cupcakes. I really enjoyed this cake. It made me feel like I was a kid and I love rainbows. So this was a fun cake to make. I reckon I've learnt that we have to follow the recipe precisely and get the right amount of time and quantity....... Isn't that a fun word, Quantity.
Anyway hope you enjoy and try out the baking recipe!

Let america be America again
The poem "Let america be America again" by Langston Hughes, talks about the issues of america in the nineteen twenties. Such as gender and race discrimination. As well as the issues around poverty and wealth.
In the parentheses after almost every paragraph, the author makes a point. He says "America was never America to me anyway" meaning that he never thought of america as a dream land anyway. I think this might have to do with the fact that he was an African American man living in a time where you were judged by the colour of your skin. So he wrote that line in the parentheses to give us another reason he gave us this poem.
The poem illustrates the fact that America is not the dreamland it is supposed to be. It says that young men are taking what they want with no regard to the people suffering because of them. This specific stanza was a big help in figuring out the time this was written and it is clear that this was in the time of the great depression. America was most definitely not a dreamland-at least not for the lower class people-it was probably the opposite.
The final stanza talks about making America America again. I believe that it was so that he could encourage people to change the country. He says it in a poetic chant kind of way which makes you feel as if it is a protest. Langston Hughes really cared about his country.
The poem was a very complex work of writing. It was hard to understand at first but after learning some words I got a grip on what he was saying. His poem was really inspiring and it opened my eyes.
