Winter Learning Journey: Day 4: Activity 3: Bonus Blog

I think that fishermen should stop fishing in farewell spit so that the dolphins can be saved from the nets. But if the dolphins do migration around New Zealand the fisherman could fish in farewell spit when the dolphins are away, but if the dolphins don't migrate around New Zealand then they can't

  1. Kia ora Bethan,

I really like your response to this activity. You are the first person to consider what might happen if the dolphins moved away from Farewell Spit at any stage and what might happen if they remained. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and the way that you considered a range of options. Well done!

I hope that the dolphins eventually find a safe place to live and the fisherman also find a place where they can catch enough fish to feed their families but not accidentally capture and kill the innocent dolphins. It's a complex issue, isn't it?

Keep up the great work, Bethan. This is a nice example of critical thinking (and we love to see examples of critical thinking)!

    Cheers,
    Rachel
