Winter Learning Journey: Day 6: Activity 2

On the 24th and 25th the Matariki people welcomed 500 Maori elders from around the country for the Kaumatua Kapa Haka

On Fri 16 Jun 2017 Te Papa held its first Matariki Ritual which marked the beginning of the Matariki Rising Festival. People from around Aotearoa, and the globe, came together to share stories, celebrate life, and remember those who passed in the last year

Maori and non-Maori practitioners discussed how our understanding of the world has developed differently in different cultures. Part of the Matariki Festival 2017.

  1. Kia ora Bethan,

It sounds like the Matariki festival was pretty amazing 'eh? I am already looking forward to attending some of the events next year. I missed most of the festival this year because I was busy with work but I will schedule some time in next year to get down to Wellington for the week-end.

I have heard from other bloggers that there is a Matariki event here in Auckland each year as well. Have you ever been to it?

    Cheers,
    Rachel
