How Chromosomes DNA and Genes connected?

How are DNA Chromosomes and Genes connected?

Your body is made of around hundreds of thousands of cells. Cells are like little factories in our bodies. Inside the nucleus is the DNA that makes us who we are.
DNA is in the chromosomes, the chromosomes are in the nucleus.
Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, each chromosome contains different information about the genes.
Each ladder of DNA are made of four protein bases A,G,C,T, all humans have these bases but every human has their own unique pattern or code of bases.
Nucleotide Bases which include these 4 proteins (A,G,C,T) form one ladder of DNA, they are always in pairs, T fits with A and C fits with G.
When a sequence of three pairs of protein come together they make a codon which is like a word, 3 our thousands of words create a chapter which is a gene, you can look at the chromosome like a book because a group of genes creates a chromosome. All our chromosomes together are like a book series.

So in summary Chromosomes are made up of smaller units called genes, genes are made of codons, codons are made of nucleotide bases.

Task Description: For this task my class sat down at the tables and took notes on DNA, Genes, and Chromosomes. It was also to prepare us for highschool. These are my notes.

  1. Hi Bethan. It's Mikael from Yaldhurst school. I really like you blog post and how you have explained what d.n.a. is. It has a lot of information in it. I also like the way you have set it out. Maybe next time you should add a photo of what d.n.a. looks like. apart from that I think it is a good blog post.

  2. Kia Ora Bethan,
I'm Grace a year 7 student from Yaldhurst Model School.

WOW this is awesome, this is such a good blog post you added so much information and your reasoning to help your information.

I also like this aswell because it has some really good information,

Maybe like next time you could put it into a slide and maybe add pictures.

Apart from that its amazing - Kind regards Grace

  3. Hi Bethan, I was like hold on here, then I read it three more times and then I was like huh, she's a clever girl, her Mother must be proud... nucleotide bases from DNA (found in chromosomes) make codons make chapters make genes... #theMindBoggles #hopeIgotThatRight well done!

  4. Hi Bethan,
You have done a very nice job of laying out the connections between DNA, genes, chromosomes and proteins. Although we haven't gone into it much, RNA (as you probably know) acts as an intermediate step between DNA and proteins, with three RNA bases in a row making a codon (which determines the next amino acid to be added to a protein being made in the ribosomes).
Great to see you have such a good handle on this information.
