Summer Learning Journey, week 3, Day 4, Activities 1,2,3

For the first activity I had to make an acrostic poem out of the word "LIGHTS" inspired from the southern lights or the " Aurora Australis".

L ively waves dancing across the sky
I ncredible colours flashing on my face
G rand movements like a ballerina in the sky
H appy, awestruck faces on people all around us
T angling together in a synchronised dance.
S ensation and calm washing all over everything.

For the second task I had to write a short summary of what happens in the book 'The seven stars of matariki'. In the book the main character is a man the youngest of his brothers Mitai who has magical abilities. Mitai is the youngest of seven brothers. His seven brothers think of themselves as the most handsome and strong people in the village because they are, because of this they don't marry anyone who is less beautiful than them. One day when they are hunting they hear the most beautiful singing, they decide to go and find the source of the beautiful voices. Once they find the source of the beautiful singing they are amazed, they find seven beautiful women with golden sparkling hair and pale shining skin, all of the brothers are absolutely amazed. Except Mitai he is suspicious. The seven brothers take the beautiful women back to the village and make them their wives, once the women are with the brothers the brothers do everything for them, getting them fish which was the only thing they eat, and doing everything the wives command. Mitai watches them closely, his suspicion growing , and he realizes they never seem to leave their homes, so one day he decides to keep a close eye on them, he notices six birds on a branch of the tree he was hiding behind. After a few moments the seventh bird comes out of Mitai's brother's home. He quickly transforms into a kereru and  follows them, after flying for a while the seven wives transforms back into women, they start to speak of their plan to starve the brothers to death. Hearing this he returns to his village and convinces his brothers that their wives are evil, once his brothers get convinced they go to the elder and get a magic net, using this net they capture the wives and take them to the star god, the star god also falls in love with the wives and agrees to take them but once a year he lets their beauty be shown to the world.

The next activity is a describing activity.
We had to choose a cloud to desribe what you think it may look like and I chose this one: This cloud to some people may look like a tornado forming but to me it looks like a spinning top, or an upside down UFO. It also looks like an upside down ladies hat, the top half also looks like a mariachi hat.

Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 3, Activities 1,2,3

The first activity was to find a bird that you really like from this website and then write about it on our blog. The bird I chose was the Kea which is my favourite native bird of New Zealand. The Kea is the only parrot that lives in alps. It is a very cheeky bird also. Kea unlike other animals and birds Like to go near humans and take things from cars and phones and other human possessions. They do this because they live in a pretty tough environment and they need to learn about things to test if they are safe or not. The Kea eats carrion, berries, nectar, insects  and other things. The Kea has green and brown feathers on its body, and has orange and blue feathers on the wings.

The second task was to say what super power you would want ever. Mine would be shape shifting into any creature. I would like to shape shift because we have a lot of powers and abilities that normal superheroes do have for example: being a bird gives you the ability to fly and if you are a hawk or falcon or eagle you have good eyesight or if you are a cheetah you can run extremely fast. Another reason I would like to be able to shapeshift is because I would want to be my favourite animal.

The third activity was that we had to post a DLO of a Flying Animal. We had to have some attributed photos and a couple of facts. My attribution is below the poster I made.

Summer Learning Journey, Week 3, Day 2, Activities 1,2,3

For the first activity we had to fill in the blanks of these sentences about bumblebees with phrases and numbers given to us on the summer learning journey website.
The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to __________________________.

Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of _______ kilometres per hour (km/h).

Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to ____ percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.

Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to   ______ times as much work as a normal honeybee.

The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the  _____________________.
The first sentence is The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to hum, buzz, or drone.
The second sentence is Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 54 kilometres per hour (km/h).
The third sentence is Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 50% percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.
The fourth sentence is Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to 90 times as much work as a normal honeybee.
The fifth sentence is The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the  removal of wildflowers and flowering trees, habitat loss, and extensive use of pesticides.
The second task was to create a sink that we can put all of the food we don't like into it. I actually like a lot of things when it comes to food so the very few things I would put into my sink anything Pickled except pickled onions (those are delicious).
The third activity was a maths problem. If a classroom is filled with seven moulds or fungi and it takes 5 days to get rid of one mould or fungus. I figured out that this was a multiplication question so I multiplied seven by five and got 35. So that is the number of days it takes to get rid of seven fungi from one classroom.

Summer Learning Journey, Week 3, Day 1, activities 1,2,3.

For the first activity I had to tell the readers on my blog what Time of year i think they should come over to visit. I usually like early spring or late winter because you get to visit New Zealand in two of its main weathers because New Zealand seasons are basically just Winter and Summer now. That is the time of year I think tourist should come to New Zealand at.
The second activity was to list down five things we can do in the summer to keep ourselves from getting sunburns.
The first thing you can do is put on sunscreen all over that uncovered parts of your body and even a few centimetres into the opening of your clothes. Remember the sun can get to places you don't think it can.
The second way to look after yourself when in the sun is to keep on applying the sunscreen after the previous coat wears off. Just because you put on sunscreen doesn't mean you are immune to sunburn.
The third way you can keep yourself from getting a sunburn is if you keep most of yourself covered. That way you only need to coat some areas of skin.
If you haven't go sunscreen on you you can cover yourself with something like a blanket or an umbrella.
The last way to take care of yourself if you don't have anything like sunscreen or an umbrella is to simply stay insode with a fan or air conditioning on.
For the third task we had to post a picture of a graph with this information: The hottest temperature on record in each place is: Dallol: 41oC; Dasht-e Loot: 71oC; Tirat Zvi: 54oC; Kabili: 55oC; Bandar-e Mahshahr: 51oC. I did the graph in that order.

Summer Learning Journey, Week 2, Day 5, Activities 1,2,3

The first activity was to say whether you think people who over fish shouldn't or should pay a fine of $100,000. I think it is fair because fishes are a living creature and their lives have the same value as ours. Fish play a big part in taking care  of the ocean, like cleaning corals and helping other bigger fish to stay clean. If we kill all of the fish we wont have anything to eat either. So people who over fish will be getting lots of food for themselves but in the future the people who want to have fish for dinner will have to go to the trouble of finding a new fishing spot.
The second task was to list down two polluted rivers and then write down the name of the rivers the location of the rivers and what is being done to help these rivers if anything. The two rivers I chose are:
Waikirikiri (Selwyn) River and the Karamu Stream.
Waikirikiri river flows through the Selwyn district of Canterbury in the south island of New Zealand. A fish and game led project is restoring the lake spawning habitat of the snake creek.
The Karamu stream is located in Napier. More than 20,000 trees have been planted across Karamu river.
The third and final activity of the week is to list down three ways to make money to preserve the great barrier reef of Australia. My first way to fund raise is start a give a little page and then make an advertisement on my blog. My second way to raise money would be to start a show or a musical or a play so that we can raise money by the tickets that have been bought to see the show. And my last way would be to start up some kind of charity box and a committee and every week they have to put in whatever amount of money into the charity box they want to and then after every year we donate the money to Australia.

Summer Learning Journey, Week 2, Day 4 activities 1,2,3.

The first task was to tell the readers on your blog whether you'd like to Visit Milford sound on a boat a helicopter or a walking trail. I would want to go on the boat because it would be a nice relaxing boat ride in the waters of Milford sound and I really like water so I would want to be near it. You also get a good view of everything from lower down and it just makes the air of majesty intensify.
The second task was to list down 3 to 5 options of a new name you would want to name the devils bath from Rotorua's Wai-o-Tapu thermal wonderland.
Here are my suggestions
1. Devils wine
2. Green sizzle water*
3. Lime poison
For the third activity we had to get a selfie and then explain what we think is happening I chose this selfie:

In this photo I think this woman is posing for a selfie of herself in front and above a part of a city. I think the city might be Athens, Greece but i'm not sure. I think the woman stands on the edge of a building to get cool picture. She starts to take a few photos. The photos are all a bit hard to take because she is up high and doesn't want to fall. I think she might be Taking a photo to remember her time at wherever she is. I think after a few tries she'll get the perfect picture. Then she'll post it on some sort of social media site like Instagram or Facebook.

Summer Learning Journey, Week 2, Day 3, activities 1,2,3

The first task was to tell people viewing my blog whether i'm a 'Night Owl' (someone who llikes the night and isn't particularly a Morning person) or if i'm an early riser. I wake up when my alarm clock rings on the weekdays and get ready for school. I don't let my alarm clock ring on the weekends so I can lie in bed for a little while then i wake up and watch TV.
The second task was to list down ingredients of your favourite food. My favourite food is Lasagna for lasagna you need.
Lasagna noodles
Ground beef
Diced onions
Garlic cloves
Canned tomatoes
Tomato Paste
2/3 Cup of water
Sugar
Parsley
Basil
Fennel Seed
salt
pepper
an egg
Ricotta cheese
Mozzarella cheese
Parmezan Cheese
(Note that i got these ingrediants came from a recipe from this website)
The next task was a maths problem. If an adult can lift 25 kg and a child can lift 15 kg, How many adults and children will it take to lift a 500 kg squid. There are many answers so I decided to go with my own number of kilograms for each group of adults and children to carry. The children got 75 kilograms between them and the adults got 425. Here is a picture of my working out.
